100 held, investigation continues over Rangpur clash

The three-member probe committee continues investigation into the Friday's clash incident that took place in village Thakurtari here leaving one person dead and some others injured, officials said.

Meanwhile, police detained another 47 persons last night raising the number of arrested persons to 100 since Friday in two separate cases filed with Kotwali and Gangachara police stations in connection with the clash, reports BSS.

“We are hopeful about completing the investigation and submitting the report within seven working days as assigned by the district administration,” head of the probe committee and Additional District Magistrate Abu Rafa Md Arif said on Sunday.

He said members of the probe committee have collected primary evidences of the incident, visiting the affected areas and talking to the victims, eyewitnesses and common people as part of the investigation.

We are putting importance on proper verification of the derogatory posting on Facebook,” Arif said adding that the real culprit involved with the Facebook posting would be identified after completion of investigation by the probe committee as well as police.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) ABM Zakir Hossain said 100 persons, mostly leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir, were arrested till today in connection with the two separate cases filed with the clash.

“Police has identified each person who were directly involved with the clash from video footages captured by police from the spot during the Friday incident and not a single person can escape arrest,” he said.

“The derogatory posting on Facebook is also being verified by the agencies concerned to identify and bring the real culprit under the rule of law of the country,” Zakir Added. Member of the probe committee and Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle- A) Saifur Rahman said police has indentified those involved with instigating people in a planned manner, their names and addresses and raids are continuing to nab them.

“A DB police team was quickly sent to Dhaka from Rangpur and the team is working now to arrest Titu, with assistance of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, CID, Cyber Crime Department and other agencies, from anywhere in the country,” he added.
