Mitu murder: prime suspect Musa’s brother gets bail

The High Court granted six-month interim bail to Syedul Alam Shikder in a case filed for the murder of former police super Babul Aktar’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order on Tuesday.

Syedul is the brother of Kamrul Islam Sikdar Musa who is the prime suspect in the Mitu murder.

On June 5, 2016, Mitu, wife of police superintendent Babul Akter, was stabbed and shot dead at GEC intersection in the port city while she was walking her son to the school bus stop near their home.

Later, Babul filed a murder case with Panchlaish police station accusing three unnamed people who were seen fleeing the scene after killing Mitu in CCTV footages.

Police arrested seven individuals suspected to be connected with Mitu’s murder. Two of the arrested suspects confessed to being involved in the murder before a court. Two other suspects were killed in a gunfight with police when they went to arrest them on July 5.

On October 6, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) announced a bounty of Tk5 lakh on information about Musa, prime suspect in the murder of Mitu.
