Dhaka seeks strong steps by UNSC to resolve Rohingya crisis
Bangladesh has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to play a stronger and bolder role to resolve the Rohingya crisis and save numerous innocent children in particular.
Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Ministry Golam Faruk Khandakar Prince made the call, taking part in an open discussion on ‘Children and Armed Conflict’ at the UNSC in New York on Tuesday, according to an official release issued on Wednesday.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has upheld humanity by sheltering the helpless, physically and mentally-hit Rohingya people, including children, provisionally in Bangladesh,” Faruk said.
“But it is the reality that the Rohingya children want to go back to their homeland with dignity as the citizens of Myanmar,” he added.
Saying the UN and UN Security Council are the last resort for the Rohingya people, he urged the Security Council to work on the Rohingya issue until every child goes back home in Rakhine State of Myanmar with full safety and dignity.
With the France delegate in the chair, Faruk, in the discussion, reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to save the Rohingya children from the armed conflict.
