Imran H Sarker gets bail again

A Dhaka court has granted bail to Gonojagoron Moncho spokesperson Imran H Sarker in a defamation case filed for making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Dhaka First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court set the bond at Tk 10,000 after Sarker surrendered to the court on Wednesday.

The court had issued arrest warrants against Sarker on Oct 26 for the second time after he failed to appear at an indictment hearing.

Ganajagaran Mancha activist Sanatan Ullash, who was also accused in the case, was granted a petition for more time by the judge that same day.

According to the plaintiff, Chhatra League Education Secretary Golam Rabbani, a torch procession led by the two was brought out at Shahbagh on May 28 protesting the removal of the statue of Lady Justice from the Supreme Court premises and the slogans were chanted in this procession.
