Arrest warrant issued against Imran H Sarker

A Dhaka Court has issued an arrest warrant against Gonojagoron Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker in a defamation case filed for making “derogatory remarks” about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Chhamidul Islam issued the warrant on Thursday morning rejecting the time petition filed by Imran.

According to the case statement, Imran and his associate Sanatan chanted defamatory slogans against the prime minister on May 27 over the removal of a statue of Greek goddess from the Supreme Court premises.

Later, a case was filed on May 31 under section 500 of penal code on charges of defaming the prime minister.

The Supreme Court authorities removed the statue of the ‘Lady Justice’ early on May 26 and later reinstalled near the apex court's Annex Building.
