Cricket fans clash with police over tickets
A clash have been ensued with police in front of the United Commercial Bank Limited (UCB) branch in the capital’s Mirpur area after failing to collect tickets for the Bangladesh-India Asia Cup final cricket match on Saturday.
Unruly protesters also vandalized several vehicles.
The ticket seekers burst into protests due to shortage of tickets against their demand.
As the bank authorities could not start selling tickets even when it was 11am, the cricket fans who were in queues burst into an agitation and threw brickbats at the branch building.
On information, police rushed in and charged baton to disperse them around 11:25 am.
Mirpur police station Officer-in-Charge Bhuiyan Mahbub Hossain, who also sustained minor injuries during the scuffle, told that the cricket fans have started hurling brick bats at the bank and vandalizing vehicles in the street. At one stage, police charged batons on them to quell the unruly situation.
