Coastguards have recovered the bodies of eight Rohingyas who got drowned in the Naf River estuary while trying to flee the violence in Rakhine state of neighbouring Myanmar.

The four children and four women were found dead at the Shah Porir Dip in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday morning.

Lieutenant Imam Sajeeb, Coastguard Station Commander of the area, said that: “A boat carrying the 50/60 Rohingyas, who tried to enter Bangladesh to escape persecution in Myanmar, capsized in Naf River.”

“Later the dead bodies were washed ashore in the morning after their boat capsized in the river,” he added.
