BNP will take part in election: CEC
The chief election commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda believes that the BNP will take part in the next general election expected to be held in 2019.
“They (BNP) met me personally and officially, and said that they would participate in the polls,” CEC said in a reply to a query while talking to journalists after inaugurating voters’ registration process at Siddheswari Girls College Centre in Dhaka’s Baily road on Saturday.
BNP and its allies boycotted the tenth parliamentary election held in 2014 as the ruling party Awami League government held the polls instead of transforming power to a non-party government for the polls.
The main opposition party outside the parliament took part in dialogues with the election commission and agreed to join ongoing talks.
“Their participation in dialogues means their participation in the elections,” Nurul Huda said. He also expressed his hope saying, “They have faith in our work.”
