Tofail for intensifying global pressure on Myanmar

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today called for intensifying global pressure on Myanmar to take back their evicted citizens who took shelter in Bangladesh.

“Bangladesh is providing all sorts of efforts to resolve the Rohingya crisis though diplomacy. There should be more international pressure on the Myanmar government,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the “Showcase Korea-2017” at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) here, said a press release.

Tofail said Myanmar government, through a delegation, has already proposed to Bangladesh to take back their citizens. On the other hand, torturing and killing the Rohingyas and burning their houses are still going on, he added.

“As a result, thousands of Rohingyas are still fleeing to Bangladesh to save their lives,” he said.

Referring to the showcase, the commerce minister said, Korea can take advantages from exporting products by producing products in the country as Bangladesh is providing all sorts of policy supports to the foreign direct investors.

Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) is organising the two-day showcase in collaboration with Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bangladesh.

Korea Trade Promotion Corporation (KOTRA) also supported to KBCCI to organise the event.

About 36 Korean companies are participating to the exhibition to display their products and services.

The exhibitors includes enterprises of automobiles, electrical and electronics, telecommunication and information technology, garments, textile and accessories, machinery and equipments, industrial products and raw materials, infrastructures development, cosmetics and chemicals, elevator and generator, health products and services, education, airlines and tourisms, food and beverage, bank and financial institution.
