Boiler blast injures 11 in Ctg factory

At least eleven steel mill workers were injured after a boiler explosion at GPH Ispat steel manufacturing factory of Chotokumira area under Sitakunda upazila of the district on Tuesday morning, reports BSS.

Among the victims, the condition of eight others is stated to be critical as they received burn injuries on the thorax and chest, police out post sources said.

The eight victims were identified as Alauddin, 27, Jahangir Alam, 29 and Solaiman, 28, the trio hailed from Sitakunda upazila, Shah Alam, 32, Mizanur Rahman and Minhazul Islam, 28, the trio also hailed from Dinajpur district, Anwar Hossain, 30, of Noahkhali district and Shafiqul Islam, 25, hailed from Lalmonirhat district.

The GPH authority brought the victims to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) at 7 am. Attending doctors discharged three victims after giving first aid as their condition is not critical.

Saiduzzaman, manager of the GPH Ispat, told BSS that a furnace boiler exploded in their factory around 5.35 am.

Dr Minal Kanti Das of CMCH burnt unit said the condition of six victims sustained serious with thorax and chest injuries.

They were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by air ambulance, Saiduzzaman added.
