Speaker returns home from Sri Lanka

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Executive Committee Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today returned home after attending a SAARC conference in Sri Lanka.

The 8th conference of the Association of SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 4-6, said a parliamentary press release here today.

She led a six-member Bangladesh parliamentary delegation.

The team members were Whip Mohammad Shahiduzzaman Sarker, Begum Sagupta Yasmin, Talukder M Younus, Syeda Sayera Mohsin and Senior Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Abdur Rab Hawlader.

During the visit, Dr Shirin Sharmin joined at a special session of the Sri Lankan Parliament marking its 70th founding anniversary.

Senior officials of the Jatiya Sangsad received Dr Shirin Sharmin on her arrival at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here, it also said.
