Syed Haque’s first death anniversary today
Today is the first death anniversary of eminent litterateur Syed Shamsul Haque.
The biggest commemorative programme will be held in Kurigram, the birth and final resting place of the poet. The Kurigram administration, Kurigram District Shilpakala Academy and Kurigram Citizens’ Forum will jointly hold the programme.
The programme will include placing of flower wreaths at Syed Shamsul Haq’s grave, discussion, special prayer and others.
On the occasion of this day the first memorial programme will be held at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today at 7pm.
Two books on the late author will be unveiled on this day.
The books titled "Fuler Gondher Moto Theke Jabo" by Charulipi Publications and "Tumi Ashbe Bole" by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will be launched today.
The event will start with the rendition of Tagore's music. Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith will inaugurate the event while Anowara Syed Haque, widow of Syed Shamsul Haque will also be present.
Writer Rabeya Khatun will chair the discussion session and Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of Shilpakala Academy will give the welcome speech. Among others Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam, Ataur Rahman, Shahriar Kabir, Professor Hayat Mamud, Professor Dr Biswajit Ghosh, writer Imdadul Haq Milon and Humayun Kabir will discuss about the man and artiste in Shamsul Haque.
After the memorial speeches songs by Syed Shamsul Haque will be rendered.
Syed Shamsul Haque was a poet, lyricist, dramatist and storyteller. He passed away on September 27 last year after succumbing to lung cancer at the age of 81.
He was awarded Bangla Academy Award in 1966 (the youngest among all to receive it), Ekushey Padak in 1984 and Independence Day Award in 2000 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contributions to Bangla literature.
