Youth killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

A youth was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Daulatpur Upazila in Kushtia early Tuesday.

At that time, three members of police have been injured.

The deceased Teni, 27, son of Alam Mondol, of village Chatardara in the upazila.

He was the accused of several cases including murder, claimed police.

Police also recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and two round bullets from the spot.

Shah Dara, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station, said that acting on a tip-off a group of terrorists were staying at Pipulbaria-Baliadanga field. Later a team of police led by Sub Inspector Rahim conducted a drive in the area.

Sensing the presence of police, the terrorists opened fire on them. In reply, police also fired back. At that time, Teni was injured and sent Daulatpur Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
