Govt. to close 13 TV channels

The Ministry of Information has ordered to shut down 13 TV channels for their illegal operation and launch a drive against them. A letter signed by Akhtaruzzzaman Talukdar, senior assistant secretary of the ministry, confirmed the drive against the 13 TV channels.

The channels are- Movie Bangla TV, Filmy Bangla TV, Bengali Movie SK TV, Channel-5, Channel-7, DM TV, Bangla Music TV, SB TV, CTG TV, Ananda Bangla TV, CTN TV and Rong TV.

Jahangir Alam Sarker, Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said to Jago news, some dishonest businessmen are operating these channels without any legal permission or procedure required to run broadcast media in Bangladesh. They also exploit the name of journalists by using logos of these illegal channels on their private vehicles.

The drive against these channels will be conducted soon, he added.
