Suspected robber killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Dhamrai of Savar early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Masuk, 55. Six people including a woman were held in this connection.

The detainees are- Shila, 20, Badsha, 40, Riajul, Sabuj, 60, Romana, 22 and her song Sakib, 7.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Dhamrai Police Station Rizaul Haq said a gang of robbers were trying to commit robbery in Dhamrai branch of Sonali Bank Ltd.

Being informed, RAB members conducted a drive there and sensing the presence of law enforcing members, dacoits opened fire, forcing the RAB men to back fire that triggered a gunfight, leaving six dacoit members bullet hit, he said.

They were taken to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex, but the duty doctors declared Masud dead, he added.

Later RAB men handed the dead body to Dhamrai Police Station, he further said.
