ACC armed unit starts journey with 20 policemen

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today launched an armed unit with 20 police personnel in a bid to be more dynamic and independent in its fight against graft.

“A new dimension has added to the ACC with the appointment of 20 police personnel for its armed unit which will help conduct drives against corruption independently. It will act as ACC's own force like FBI (in the US) and CBI (in India),” said ACC Director General (admin) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury after receiving the police personnel at Segunbagicha headquarters here.

“Drives against corruption will strengthen in the days ahead with the help of the armed unit,” he said, adding that the unit will only be assigned in conducting drives against corruption, not in any investigation into any matter.

ACC gave approval to prepare the code for formation of the armed unit this year as per the five-year plan to fight corruption effectively, reports BSS.

A team of the ACC headed by three deputy directors started for BRTA office today after receiving a complaint of demanding bribe over the ACC hotline 106 with the assistance of the armed unit personnel.
