SC rejects Khaleda’s plea

The Appellate Division has upheld the High Court order that rejected the plea filed by the Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Khaleda Zia, seeking cancellation of witness deposition on Zia Charitable and Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

A five-member bench headed by Surindra Kumer Sinha passed the order on Sunday morning.

Seniors lawyers AJ Mohammad Ali, Barrister Mahabub Uddin Khokon and Ragib Roy Chowdhury participated in the hearing on behalf of Khaleda Zia and Advocate Kurshid Alam Khan on behalf of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC had filed two graft cases including the Zia Orphanage Trust case in 2008 and 2011.

According to the charge sheet in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others embezzled Tk 2.1 crore by forming the charity that exists only on paper.
