ACC nabs 3 Ctg port officials for embezzle Tk 70 lakh
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday arrested three officials of Chittagong Port on charges of embezzling Taka 70 lakh.
The arrested were identified as assistant transport inspector Mohammad Monowar Hossain and senior assistants Burul Islam Chowdhury and Pulok Kanti Das.
ACC Chittagong divisional director Abu Saiyeed said the port employees were arrested from the port around 11.30 am in a case filed for pocketing Taka 70 lakh which were earned from an auction of glycerin at the port.
“The arrested misappropriated the money earned through auction of 404 tonnes of crude glycerin instead of depositing the money to the government exchequer,” the ACC official said adding that they were handed over to Halishahar Police Station.
Earlier, assistant director of ACC Chittagong office HM Aktaruzzaman filed the case with Halishahar Police Station today against 11 people including six officials of Chittagong Port and Chittagong Customs, the sources added.
