1 detained with 118 rare tortoises, Phensidyl

A man was detained along with 118 tortoises of rare species and 300 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Churamankathi area in Sadar upazila of Jessore district on Tuesday night.

Jessore commanding officer Major Abdullah Al Mehedi of Rapid Action Battalion-6 (Rab-6) confirmed the matter to Jagonews24.com.

The detainee is Jahangir Hossain, son of late Abdul Gafur of South Burujbagan area in Sharsha upazila of Jessore.

Other smugglers and the vehicle driver managed to flee.

Abdullah said being informed that some rare species of tortoises were being smuggled into the country from India; a team of the RAB conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a three-wheeler at around 9pm.
