Govt preparing to file review petition over SC verdict: Anisul
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said the government is taking preparations to file a review petition over the Supreme Court verdict that upheld a High Court judgment scraping the 16th constitutional amendment.
“We have applied for a certified copy of the full judgment...The verdict is being examined and the government is taking preparations to submit a review petition,” he told reporters after a function at an orphanage in city's Tejgaon.
Earlier, the law minister distributed food items among 154 underprivileged children of 'Families for Children' under the management of his ministry marking the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Morning Day.
Huq said it is usual to express reactions over the irrelevant, unnecessary and objectionable comments made in the 16th constitutional amendment judgment and it is not an offence unless anyone gives reactions in defamatory words.
He said those who were in power from 1975 to 1996 were connection with the killers of Bangabandhu.
Law Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Jahirul Haq, Directorate of Registration Director General Khan Md Abdul Mannan, Law and Justice Division Additional Secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman and Joint Secretary Bikash Kumar Shaha and senior officials of the ministry were present, among others, in the food distribution function.
