2 Bangladeshis killed in US road crash

Two Bangladeshi nationals were killed and two others injured at Wilkinson County area in the US state of Georgia around 8pm on Monday (US local time).

The deceased were identified as Pracheta Dutta Tumpa and Imtiaz Ikram Alis. They were PhD students at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

The two friends were also students of Aeronautical Engineering at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) and they left for the US to pursue PhDs in 2016.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the driver of a white Madza 3 traveling on Ga. Highway 112 attempted to cross Ga. Highway 29 just before 8 p.m., but pulled in front of a tractor trailer that was traveling southbound on Highway 29.

The driver of the tractor trailer could not stop in time and struck the passenger side of the Madza, killing the driver and front seat passenger on impact.

A passenger in the back of the car was taken to Navicent Health in Macon.

The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.
