Flood situation worsens in Dinajpur
With a further rise in the water levels of the Punarbhava and Atrai rivers, the flood situation in the district worsened today.
Local administration sources said over 9 lakh people in 13 upazilas have fallen victim to the flood caused by heavy rain and onrush of waters from the upstream.
The railway and road communications of Dinajpur with the capital have remained snapped since Monday afternoon.
Executive Engineer Fayzur Rahman of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) said the Punarbhava river was flowing 85-cm above the red mark this morning. The Atrai was flowing 83-cm above the danger mark during the same time, he said.
Meanwhile, authorities have closed down schools, colleges and madrasas across the district because of the flood.
Civil Surgeon Dr Golam Mawla Chowdhury said a total of 110 medical teams are working to help the flood victims.
