Flood affects over 5 lakh in 20 districts

A total of 5,86,000 people have been affected by flood in 20 districts in the country, said Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury.

358 unions under the 356 upazilas of the districts including Sylhet, Sunamganj, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Bogra, Sirajganj, Netrokona, Khagrachhari and Rangamati are now inundated.

The minister said this while speaking at a press conference at the Disaster Management Department in the capital’s Mohakhali on Monday.

Already, 3,68,586 people took shelter in 973 flood shelter centre’s. The number of people in the shelter centre’s might be increased, he added.

He also said, the vacation of field level staffs, disaster management and relief ministry, disaster management department and cyclone preparation program have been cancelled in the face of the situation.
