14 JMB men get 20yrs imprisonment in serial blast

A court on Tuesday sentenced 20 years imprisonment to 14 operatives of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in a case relating to the August 17, 2005 serial blasts.

First Additional District and Session Judge of Tangail Abul Mansur Mia passed the order this noon.

It also fined each of the JMB men of Taka 10,000 and in default they would have to suffer one more year in jail.

The convicts are: Kashem, Abdullah Al Mamun, Habibur Rahman Habib, Arman Bin Azad, Mirza Abdul Ahad, Habil, Abdullah Hel Baki, Rustom Tarik, Abdul Akhter, Ziaur Rahman, Tanvir, Delwar Hossain, Imon and Shahidul. Of them, 10 convicts are now languishing at different jails while four others are still at large.

As part of the simultaneous bomb attacks across the country, JMB men carried out blasts at court premises, Shaheed Jaglu Road and Baby Stand area in Tangail on August 17, 2005.

Advocate Monirul Islam moved for the state while Shamim Chowdhury Dayal and Advocate Nazimuddin for the accused.
