12 get death for killing 1 in Tangail

A court in Tangail sentenced twelve people to death in a case filed for killing a youth over land dispute in the district. 

Judge Waheduzzaman Shikdar of Tangail Special Judge’s Court gave the verdict on Tuesday.

The convicts are: Mozid, Abdul Mazid, Saidul, Maznu, Momin, Nizam, Abu Bakar, Hanu, Nurul Islam, Babu, Siraj and Wahab. Among them Mozid, Abdul Mazid Hanu and Nurul Islam are on the run.

On April 13, 2014, following a previous enmity over land dispute, the 12 convicts entered the house of Lal Miah in Bhuapur upazila and hacked his son Rabiul Islam Rajan, 24, with sharp weapons.

Rajan, critically injured in the attack, died when being taken to Dhaka.

A case was filed against 18 people over his death. Police later pressed charges against 12 people in court.
