Housewife arrested over Maid’s death in Banasree

Police arrested Shahnaj, the housewife, in a case filed over the death of a housemaid at her home in the capital’s Banasree early Saturday.

Laily Begum who used to work as a housemaid at the house of Moeen Uddin at House 14 on Road 4 in Block G, Banasree, was found dead on Friday noon.

Later, Laily’s brother-in-law Shahidul Islam filed the murder case with Khilgaon Police Station against three people including the housewife Shahnaj.

Earlier, police arrested Shahnaj’s husband Munshi Moinuddin and Tofazzal, a guard of the house.

The deceased’s relatives claimed the death as a murder whereas the house owner claimed it a suicide.

As the news of her death broke out, local people ransacked around a dozen vehicles on the road passing along the canal at Banasree from Rampura Bridge and burned tyres, forcing police to halt traffic on the road in the evening.

Police later brought the situation under control.

Police, as plaintiff, filed a case accusing some 300-400 people on charge of clash, vandalizing and arson attack.
