25 journo’s killed in Bangladesh in 25 years: IFJ

The 25th report of International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) said a total of 25 journalists were killed in Bangladesh since 1990.

The report was published on Wednesday that showed at least 2,297 journalists and media staff has been killed across the world for doing nothing more than trying to inform the world on war, revolution, crime and corruption.

This milestone publication charts the trajectory of safety crisis in journalism and bears witness to the IFJ’s long running campaign to end impunity for violence against media professionals, said president of the IFJ Jim Boumelha

The IFJ report also says that killings span the entire world where wars and armed conflicts are not the only justification for the grim numbers.

The reports ranked the ten top nations in terms of numbers. The countries are Iraq (309), the Philippines (146), Mexico (120), Pakistan (115), Russian Federation (109), Algeria (106), India (95), Somalia (75), Syria (67) and Brazil (62).

It records that 571 were killed in Asia Pacific region, followed by the Arab World and Middle East with 473 killings, one more than the Americas (472).

Africa comes in the fourth position on 424 victims ahead of Europe with 357 dead.
