FB post on goat’s death: Journo gets bail
A court in Khulna granted ad-interim bail to the local reporter Abdul Latif Morol in a case filed under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
Khulna’s senior judicial magistrate Nusrat Jabin on Wednesday passed the order.
Morol is a Dumuria Upazila reporter of Khulna-based Daily Prabaha.
He had shared a news report on his facebook account which stated that a goat died hours after it was handed over by a junior minister to a resident at Dumuria in Khulna.
Later one Subrata Faujder filed the case with Dumuria Police Station on Monday night alleging that Morol defamed the minister via a facebook post.
The case was filed about 9:25pm and a police team, led by inspector (investigation) Abdul Khalek, arrested the journalist at his house about 2:30am on Tuesday.
According to the case, Morol had allegedly criticized State Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda regarding the death of some livestock and poultry which was distributed among poor people by the minister.
