The government will recruit Siddiqur Rahman, a student of Government Titumir College, into the Essential Drugs Company Limited who injured in the eyes in police action on student protests at Shahbagh in Dhaka on July 20.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday assured this at a seminar titled “Chikungunya 2017: Dhaka Experience” at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

The minister said: “It is not sure whether the eyes will be good or not but Siddiqur’s doctors in India are trying.”

Siddiqur’s eyes were damaged after a policeman, as seen in a video footage, shot a teargas canister directly at the agitating college students at Shahbagh on July 20. Siddiqur collapsed on the street instantly.

On July 22, Siddiqur underwent surgery at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital, but doctors said there is a little chance for him to recover fully.
