Drug trader killed in B’baria gunfight

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight in Kuti area of Kasba upazila early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Yousuf Miah, 28, son of Nurul Haque, a resident of Kutir Maichkar village, according to a news agency.

Md Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station, said that on secret information, a team of police arrested Yousuf along with 90 kiligrams of hemp from an area adjacent to Tarbari on Friday afternoon.

Gleaning information from the arrestee in primary investigation, police along with Yousuf conducted a drive on Comilla-Sylhet highway in the area around 2:00 pm to recover drugs.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, drug traders opened fire on police. The law enforcers also retaliated, triggering the gunfight that left Yousuf dead on the spot.

Police also recovered 45 kilograms of hemp, a pipe gun, and two rounds of bullets from the spot.

Four policemen were also injured during the gunfight.
