15 SIU students expelled over killing

The authority of Sylhet International University (SIU) has expelled its fifteen students in connection with the killing of Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Qazi Habib.

The decision was taken at a Syndicate meeting headed by SIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Sushanta Kumar Das on Friday night.

The students who were rusticated include SIU unit BCL president M Sagar Hosain, M Alaur Khan, Elias Ahmad Punam, Anisur Rahman, Moynul Islam, M Ashik Uddin, M Abdul Awal, Bashir Ahmad Tuhin, Sujon Miah, Harun Rashid, Qazi Kamrul Ahmed, Nayan Roy, Saidur Rahman, Bishwajit Dey and M Saidur Rahman Sumon.

Habib, a 4th year student of the university and also an activist of the city unit of BCL, was hacked to death allegedly by some activists of the organization he belonged to in the city on 20 January.

Director of the SIU public relations office Tarek Uddin said, the 15 students were expelled as per the report of the probe body. Earlier, they were temporarily suspended by SIU authority.
