Action to be taken if negligence found in Siddiqur’s incident: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said that the injury of Siddiqur Rahman, student of Titumeer College, during police action in city’s Shahbagh intersection is unfortunate. If negligence found, the responsible persons would be brought to book.

He said, “A three-member committee has been formed to investigate into the incident.” The minister asked the (DMP) police to be more patient in preventing movement and agitation in the city.

He was briefing at a press conference at his ministry conference room on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The government has taken programmes to observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with the theme “Listen First: Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe” tomorrow in the city and elsewhere in the country.

Asaduzzaman Khan said the government is working to make the country free from drug and drug abuse following the Prime Minister’s zero tolerance policy, reports BSS.

He said the government is working to stop Yaba smuggling into the country. Myanmar representative recently visited Bangladesh and assured to extend cooperation on the issue, while India is working to destroy drug factories located adjacent to border areas.

Home minister said, “We are building awareness among common people through mosques, madrasas and educational institutions against drug smuggling and militancy.”

He urged all section of people to come forward for building awareness against illegal drug and drug abuse, as we don’t want to see another Oishi, who killed her parents.”

He said the government has been strengthening anti-drug operations to stop Yaba and other drug smuggling into the country and police and BGB are playing significant role in this regard.

The minister said, “The government is considering banning the fishing in the river Naf, as Yaba is mainly entered into the country through Naf River.
