One killed, 5 missing in Bandarban landslide
A woman was killed and five are missing in a landslide due to torrential rain in Roangchhori upazila of the district this morning.
Police, local army camp and fire fighters launched the rescue operation after the landslide which blocked the Bandarban-Ruma Road and recovered the body of Chingme Marma, 20, a schoolteacher of Ruma upazila.
Army Warrant officer Nazmul Huda said the landslide struck the road in the Dolianpara area at about 11 am forcing a bus to stop on the road.
“Passengers of the bus were crossing the road on foot in the area. Suddenly a huge chunk of mud fell on seven to eight people when they were crossing the road,” he said.
The local army team has managed to rescue three people alive and that the rescue efforts were ongoing, reports BSS.
State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur, MP, Army Region Commander Brigadier General M Jubaer Salehin, Sadar Army Zone Commander Lt Col. Mosiur Rahman, and Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Banik visited the spot.
