Tajuddin Ahmed’s 93rd birthday today

Today is the 93rd birth anniversary of Tajuddin Ahmad, the first prime minister of Bangladesh.

On this day in 1925, Tajuddin Ahmed was born at village Dardaria under Kapasia in Gazipur district. He was the fourth among four sons and six daughters of his parents.

In the politics of Bangladesh, Tajuddin was regarded as a rare politician and a symbol of merit, skill, efficiency and ideology. He actively took part in all the national movements, including the historic Language Movement in 1952 and the War of Liberation of 1971, since 1947.

He was the general secretary of Awami League. Tajuddin Ahmed led successfully the guerrilla warfare in the war of independence in absence of Bangabandhu and the country achieved independence in the nine-month war defeating the occupation Pakistani forces under his farsighted and capable leadership.

After the August 15, 1975 carnage, in which Bangabandhu and most of his family members were assassinated, he had been kept under house arrest. Tajuddin Ahmed along with Bangabandhu’s three close associates and national leaders were killed inside the Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, the same year.
