Biography of Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury
Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury (Retd) was born in Natore in 1939. He was educated at Dhaka and graduated from Pakistan Military Academy & Australian Staff College.
He joined Pakistan Army in 1956. Repatriating to Bangladesh in 1973 he held many important positions including General Officer Commanding at Comilla & Bogra Cantonment. Last appointment held was Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army. He retired in 1981.
Soldier-turned-businessman Maj Gen Chowdhury started his business career in 1982. He is the visionary Founder & Chief executive officer (CEO) of the most diversified group of companies in Bangladesh with interests in Real Estate Housing, Agro Processing , Food, PVC & Plastics , Light Engineering, Electrical & Electronics .
The companies maintain an unblemished record of performance in production & labour-management. PRAN Group has an enviable reputation for credit worthiness. Promoting an amalgam of Bangladeshi style of corporate management based on our social values and modern Western and Japanese style of management is his hobby-horse.
He is the founder-president of Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), Bangladesh Agro-Processors’ Association (BAPA) and a past-president of Underprivileged Children’s Education Programme (UCEP).
He was an active member of premier trade bodies. He was the president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industries –MCCI . He had keen interest in agriculture, rural development and economics.
He is performing important role in the country’s private sector through employment of jobless persons in rural areas. Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury (Retd) is an enlightened person. He is broadly known as the pioneer of Agriculture & Agricultural products multiple user and achiever of economic prosperity through this sector of industry. His contribution towards social & economic development is exemplary. Moreover, his attempt for country’s economic development has brought ample prosperity and elegant splendor in the business sector. He takes keen interest in agriculture, rural development and economics. He is best described as an entrepreneur and a hands-on manager. Blending the objectives of achieving social values together with pecuniary advantage and creating jobs in our impoverished rural environment through financially profitable enterprises is his mission in life.
Mr Amjad Khan Chowdhury’s father is Mr Ali Kashem Khan Chowdhury. Mr Amjad’s wife, Mrs Sabiha Amjad.
This couple has four children. They are, Azar J .K. Chowdhury, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Dr Sheira Haque, and Uzma Chowdhury.
