Awami League suspends Saju over UNO case

The Awami League has suspended its Barisal unit Religious Affairs Secretary Sayed Obaidullah Saju over a case he filed against former Agailjhara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Gazi Tariq Salman for alleged distortion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s photo.

The ruling party’s general secretary Obaidul Qader came up with the announcement following the Awami League local government nomination board’s meeting held at the prime minister official residence Ganabhaban on Friday evening.

Saju filed a case on June 7 alleging that UNO Salman published a distorted photo of Bangabandhu on invitation cards of Independence Day programme.

The UNO was landed in jail for two hours as Barisal Metropolitan Magistrate rejected his bail plea.

Salman, now UNO of Barguna, said that the portrait of Bangabandhu was drawn by a class-5 student and selected through a competition.
