HC pardons five lawyers over BO assault
The High Court (HC) today exempted five apex court lawyers from contempt of court ruling, accepting their unconditional apology for obstructing the court proceedings and assaulting a bench officer (BO).
The High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury passed the order, asking the Supreme Court Bar Council to take initiative to teach the newly-enlisted lawyers how to behave in court.
The court also ordered Supreme Court Registrar General to investigate whether bench officers at the apex court committing any irregularities in preparing cause lists.
Earlier on July 10, the five lawyers- Nur-e-Alam Uzzal, Lizen Patwari, BM Sultan Mahmud, Motilal Bepari and Mohammad Ali-offered an unconditional apology over the incident on June 19.
The accused on that day assaulted bench officer Rafikul Islam, shouted and obstructed the court proceedings over the hearing of their cases at the court.
The High Court on that very day had ordered the lawyers to appear before it on July 2 and issued a contempt of court ruling against them.
On July 2, the High Court had asked the five to submit their explanations today in writing over the matter.
