58 Swadhin Bangla artistes get FF status

The government today awarded freedom fighter status to 58 more artistes of Liberation War time radio centre Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra for their outstanding contribution to the liberation war.

In line with decision taken at the 44th meeting of National Freedom Fighters' Council, Liberation War Ministry issued a gazette notification awarding freedom fighter status to 58 artistes including host of popular radio programme 'Charampatra' MR Akhtar Mukul, filmmaker and actor Shubhash Dutta, singers Fakir Alamgir and Timir Nandi, according to a news agency.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque told BSS if the gazette members or their successors apply, they can enjoy all facilities entitled to a freedom fighter.

Filmmaker Jahirul Haque, Mustari Safi and Khandker Raju Ahmed, singers Mahjabin Begum (Queen), Azharul Islam, Abu Nowsher, Sarwar Jahan (posthumous), Rezwanul Haque (posthumous), Hazrat Ali Bayati (posthumous), Manjusri Niyogi, Mrinal Bhattacharjee, Probal Chowdhury (posthumous), Uma Khan, Kolyani Ghosh, Sujit Roy, Gitosree Chowdhury, MKK Siddique, Mozammel Haque, Sajeda Khatun, Amirul Islam Prodhan, Abul Kalam Azad, Mohammed Niaz Uddin, Mosharraf Hossain Mashu, Dhirendranath Namadas, Shamser Ali Prodhan (posthomous), Mala Khurram, Shibu Roy, Shukla Bhadra, Enamul Haque, Chittaranjan Bhuiyan and Firoj Chowdhury, instrumentalists Subol Dutta (posthumous) and Milon Bhattacharjee, technician Aminur Rahman, copy writer Ekramul Haque Chowdhury and Mohiuddin Ahmed, Recording supervisors AM Shafiur Rahman Dulu, instrumentalists Poritosh Kumar Saha, Hajen Chandra Pahari (posthumous), Abu Bakar Siddique Prodhan, programme organizer Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Md Nazrul Islam (Anu Islam), AM Sharfuzzaman, Foyez Ahmad (posthumous), Tabla player Subrata Sengupta, 'Kathak' Dr Dilip Kumar Dhar, sub-editor M Mamun, poets Niranjan Adhikari (Sabuj Chakrabarty), Shah Salauddin Sajjad (posthumous), Abul Kalam Azad and Abu Bakar Siddique, among others, were awarded with the status to the freedom fighter.
