EC wants to make flawless voter list before polls: Shahadat

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury today said the Election Commission would like to prepare a flawless voter list before the next general election.

"The work of updating voter list will begin from Mymensing on July 25 and we want to make a flawless voter list before the next election," he told the reporters at his EC Secretariat office.

He expressed the hope that no pressure would be exerted on the Election Commission during the next general election. The EC would do its best to thwart pressure, if any, he added.

He said, "We have received some allegations about the voter list and the EC also came to know some information about the voter list ... so we want to make a proper voter list."

The EC information collectors would gather information from door to door, Shahadat said adding it would be a punishable offence if anyone wants to make the list from party office.

About Rohingya voter issue, he said the EC would remain alert to resist any attempt to include the Rohingyas in the voter list. Committees have already been formed at special zones to resist any such attempt, he added.

Shahadat said campaign would be triggered to make women voters in huge numbers this time.
