Citycell CEO Mebub Chowdhury gets bail

Mebub Chowdhury, the chief Executive Officer (CEO) of mobile-phone operator Citycell, has been granted bail in an embezzlement case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Laskar Sohel Rana passed the order on Sunday.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested him on charge of embezzling over Tk 383 crore on Saturday.

Investigation officer of the case produced him before the court and sought custody while his lawyer appealed for bail.

After hearing the case, the court granted his bail and release on a bound of Tk 10,000.

ACC deputy director Sheikh Abdus Salam on last Wednesday filed a case with Banani Model Police Station against 16 people including the former foreign minister and chairman of Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited (PBTL) M Morshed Khan and the CEO Mehbub Chowdhury.

The allegation brought against them is that they have embezzled Tk 383 crore 22 lakh and 363 of AB bank.
