Office resumes, holiday mood persists

The government and private offices opened today as the three-day public holiday on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr ended yesterday.

The capital city, however, still remained in holiday mood with thin presence of people at their workplaces while many holiday-makers yet to return here from their village homes.

Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, was celebrated in the country amid much enthusiasm and religious fervour on Monday.

The Eid holidays began on June 25, but people enjoyed an additional vacation from June 23 to June 24 as the two days were weekends.

Banks and stock market resumed usual business today. The banks saw very few clients while stock market opened the post-Eid trading in positive mood, taking the price indices upward from the very beginning of the session.

The bus terminals and railway stations were not busy like usual days, with only a few people were seen coming back to capital while there were only a few outbound passengers.

The big malls and most of the shops in city markets remained closed while some vendors at different kitchen markets in the city were awaiting customers with limited items in their hands to sell. There were no vendors and customers at the footpath shops in the city.

There was no traffic congestion when few public and private vehicles were plying in the city streets.

The situation, however, was quite opposite at different amusement sites and locations in the city, including Dhaka Zoo, Shishu Park, Hatirheel and Crescent Lake.

Most of these places had been witnessing huge and constant rush since the Eid day as people from different areas of the city went there for giving their families a good treat.
