Police, in special drives from Sunday night to this morning, arrested eight persons including three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and two drug traders and recovered 2,200 liters of locally made liquor and 506 pieces of Yaba tablets from four upazilas of the district.

Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.

During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested six persons including three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hakimpur Thana police arrested two drug traders with 506 pieces of Yaba tablets.

Meanwhile, in a joint drive of law enforcement recovered 900 liters of locally made liquor from Phulbari upazila of the district and 1,300 liters of locally made liquor recovered from Parbatipur upazila in an abandoned condition.

Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.

The arrested people were sent to jail.
