Mamata summons Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner

The Chief Minister of West Bengal has summoned the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata following a newspaper report that a Rajya Sabha MP of Mamata Banerjee funded the anti-Indian forces, like Jamaat-e-Islami, to destabilize the Awami League government in Bangladesh.

The Deputy High Commissioner, Abida Islam will meet Ms. Banerjee on Saturday. Bangladesh foreign ministry sources in Delhi confirmed that Ms. Islam has been summoned by the Chief Minister, reports The Hindu.

However,  Mofaththarul Iqbal, first secretary (press) of Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, told risingbd that “It is a courtesy call. The Chief Minister has set the time as we wrote a letter some days ago seeking time to meet her”.

He also said, “Abida Islam has already been transferred from Kolkata, and it is a courtesy to call on him before leaving the city”.

A senior leader of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has said that Ms. Banerjee will give a “piece of her mind” to the Deputy High Commissioner for “selective leaks in media violating protocol” against a ruling party in the State.

The Banglabazar alleged that AITC’s Rajya Sabha M.P. Ahmed Hassan Imran raised several hundred thousand dollars from the  company, Saradha and distributed part of it to promote anti-Indian forces in Bangladesh.
