3 held for human trafficking, rescued 2
Police on Wednesday held three people in charge of trafficking human and rescued two victims from Bank Colony area under EPZ police station in Chittagong.
The detainees are identified as Mohammad Selim, 25, of Bagerhat, Mohammad Ali, 19, of Jhalakati and Helal Uddin Rana, of Pirojpur.
EPZ police station OC Abul Kalam Azad said: “Acting on a tip-off, we raided the area and detained the human traffickers on Wednesday morning. They are the members of a five-member human trafficking gang.”
He said two human trafficking victims –Rakib Hossain and Mohammad Hasssan--were also rescued in the drive.
The further OC said: “They were planning to traffic 12 people to Bengaluru in India with the promise of giving them jobs with a salary of Tk25,000. Only two people who were supposed to be sent to India had met the traffickers. The others are yet to come.”
He said: “The detainees take the victims to India and take a ransom of Tk1 to Tk2 lakh.”
