Landslides in hilly areas: Death toll rises to 146

At least 146 people including four army men were killed and many others injured in separate incidents of landslides after heavy rain in three hilly districts since Monday night to Wednesday afternoon.

The rescue operation is underway in those areas.

Among them, 103 were from Rangamati, 6 in Bandarban, 34 in Chittagong and 2 in Cox’s Bazar. The death toll could rise further and many others remained missing.

Our Rangamati correspondent said that, the landslides took place in Rangamati sadar, Kawkhali upazila, Kaptai upazila and Belaichhari upazila. 103 were recovered from the spot.

Our Chittagong correspondent added that, at least 34 people were killed in landslides in Rangunia upazila, Banshkhali upazila and Chandanaish upazila in the district.

Our Bandarban correspondent reported that, six people were killed and eleven others injured in landslides in different parts of  the district.
