Rainfall may continue all day-long, signal 3 for maritime ports
Rain or thunder showers may continue all day long in parts of the country as the depression over north west bay and adjoining north east bay moved northeastwards and now lies over Bhola and adjoining area as a land depression at 6am on Monday.
The depression is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction further inland, said a Met office press release today.
"Under the influence of the land depression, deep convection is continuing and steep pressure gradient lies over North Bay. Gusty or squally weather will affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining areas of Bangladesh." The release said.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox`s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three.
Under the influence of the depression, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox`s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind driven surge of 1-2 feet height above normal astronomical tide, the release added.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
The weather bulletin further said that rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
Day and night temperature may fall by (1-3) degree celsius over the country.
According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), some 30 milliliter rainfall was recorded in Dhaka till 6 am today from yesterday while the highest 117 ml rainfall was recorded in Tekhnaf.
