8 cops sued for extortion

Three separate cases were filed against eight members of law enforcing agency in connection with alleged extortion and snatching.

The cases were filed with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court and the court on Sunday ordered to investigate the matters.

One Nurun Nahar Nasima Begum sued eight persons including Badda Police Station officer-in-charge MA Jalil and three other policemen on charge of extortion.

The other accused of the case are: Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Shaheen, ASI Abdur Rahim, ASI Din Islam, Zahanara Rashid, Rokeya Rashid, Ataur Rahman and Shukur Ali.

After hearing the case statement, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Islam ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to look into the case.

According to the case statement, the defendants locked the door of the complainant’s flat on May 26, 2017. Then they asked the plaintiff to give Tk 2,00,000 to get back the keys and open it.

One businessman filed a lawsuit against three including capital’s Bhatara Police Station’s officer-in-charge Nurul Mottakim on charge of hijacking. The other accused are SI Babul Hossain and ASI Maruf.

On the other hand, Naraynganj DB police ASI Monir is accused of extortion and a court ordered to investigate the matter.
