Gold traders withdraw strike
Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) on Saturday called off its indefinite strike following a meeting with Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) president Md. Shafiul Islam Mahiuddin.
Earlier, the association on last Wednesday called an indefinite strike from Sunday, demanding formulation of a gold import policy. They also demanded giving back seized gold to Apan Jewllers.
However, FBCCI president Md. Shafiul Islam assured Jewellers saying that he spoke to Prime Minister’s principal secretary to get assurance that a gold policy will be formulated.
The jewelers were also assured that any gold trader will not be harassed until formation of the policy.
“We have decided to withdraw our strike as we got assurance on our demand,” said Enamul Haque Khan, vice-president of the association.
