War crimes accused Emdad dies

War crimes accused Emdadul Haque alias Takkabali of Brahmanbaria died undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early on Tuesday. He was 80.

Mozammel Haque, Inspector of DMCH police outpost, confirmed this to Jagonews24.com.

Emdadul Haque, a resident of Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria district, had been admitted to the DMCH on 7 January.

On 6 January, police arrested Emdadul from his Kafrul residence in the capital for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

On the day, the three-member International Crimes Tribunal 1 led by Justice Anwarul Haque issued the arrest warrant after prosecution prayed to the tribunal.

The tribunal fixed 16 February for the next hearing.
