Undeclared Tk 13,372 crore whitened since independence
Finance minister AMA Muhith on Thursday said that the government gave scope for whitening undeclared Taka 13,372 crore since independence and earned Taka 1,454 crore.
“Total Taka 13,372 crore of the undeclared money was whitened since independence and government got tax of Taka 1454 crore during the same time”, Muhith said while replying to a written question of Awami League lawmaker M Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The minister said that Taka 2.25 crore undisclosed money was whitened and government got tax Taka 0.19 crore in between 1971 and 1975, while 1976 to 1980, Taka 50.76 crore untaxed money was legalized and government earned revenue Taka 0.81 crore.
Total Taka 45.89 crore undeclared money was whitened from 1981 to 1990 and government got tax of Taka 4.5 crore and 1991 to 1996 untaxed money of Taka 150.79 crore was legalized and government earned Taka 15.08 crore, he informed the House.
Besides, the government got tax of Taka 141.24 crore when undisclosed money of Taka 950.41 crore was whitened between 1997 and 2000 and Taka 827.74 crore untaxed money was whitened from 2001 to 2006 and government got tax of Taka 102.77 crore, Muith said.
He said that the highest Taka 9682 crore undisclosed money was whitened in 2007 to 2009 period and government earned tax of Taka 911 crore during the same period, while 2009 to 2013, a total of Taka 1805.01 crore untaxed money was whitened and government got tax of Taka 230.41 crore.
Since 2013 till today, Taka 856.30 undisclosed money was whitened and government got tax of Taka 48.40 crore, the finance minister added.
